The Montgomery County Concert Band was founded in April, 1995, by Stephen E. Frederick and Paul Ferla. Since its beginning the band has presented over 250 concerts for a variety of community celebrations, seasonal/park concerts and holiday events throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Players come from a variety of daily occupations and backgrounds including education, the business world, computer industry, scientists, and students. Several are retirees. All began their musical journey participating in school music programs. Many current members continued to play in groups beyond the school setting through the years, and many have joined to rekindle their love of playing band music in the concert ensemble setting. Musicians and directors are all volunteers donating their time to prepare the various programs for the community.
In the spring of 2014, the band performed for both the National Convention of the Association of Concert bands in Allentown and the PMEA Annual State Conference, in Hershey. This marked the second time the band has performed at the PMEA Conference. In 2017 the band was honored to be a recipient of the Sudler Silver Scroll Award presented by the John Philip Sousa Association as one of three outstanding community bands in the U.S. MCCB is only the fourth community band from Pennsylvania to receive this award. MCCB has presented benefit concerts for Lansdale Community Housing, Manna on Main Street and the 300th anniversary of the founding of Trappe, PA. Annually the band performs three formal concerts which include their Community Band Festival.
